P-3, CP-140 and LI88

The P-3 Orion is powered by four T-56 turboprops which give it a speed ideal for antisubmarine warfare work, of maritime surveillance, counter-drug and search-and-rescue missions. The P-3 has an internal bomb bay, as well as underwing stations which can carry missiles such as the AGM-84 Harpoon. It has a characteristic long stinger in the tail which houses the magnetic anomaly detector. The first version, flew in 1961 w with over 750 built.

The P-3 is slated for replacement after 2010 in the USA by the P-8 Poseidon, however 17 other countries will continue to operate the aircraft through life extension programs. The Lockheed CP-140 Aurora is a Canadian Forces airtime patrol aircraft version, and incorporates the more advanced electronics suite of the S-3 Viking. Aurora is the Greek goddess who restored Orion's eyesight.
